Based on the fluorescence sensor of 3-Mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) capped CdTe quantum dots (QDs), two novel detection methods for aklomide and nitromide were developed. The MPA-CdTe QDs were synthesized and characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet visible (UV-vis) and fluorescence (FL). The quenchings were all static. The binding constants (K a ) at different temperatures were obtained. Electrostatic forces were the main forces for the two bindings. For the detection of aklomide and nitromide, under the optimal conditions, the effects of some metal ions, glucose, bovine serum albumin (BSA) and congeneric drug on the determination were explored. The standard equations were established and the limits of detection (LOD) were 0.0215 and 0.0388 μg mL -1 (3S 0 /S), repectively. Plasmon enhanced fluorescent (PEF) with more "hot spots" play a critical role in signal amplified technology to avoid the intrinsic limitation of fluorophore which ascribed to a strong electromagnetic field at the tip structure. However, application of PEF technique to obtain a highly sensitive analysis of medicine was still at a very early stage. Herein, a simple but versatile Ag nanocubes (Agcubes)-based PEF sensor combined with aptamer (Agcubes@SiO 2 -QDs-Apt) was proposed for highly sensitive detection of berberine hydrochloride (BH). The distance between the plasma Agcubes and the red-emitted CdTe quantum dots (QDs) were regulated by the thickness of silica spacer. The three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (3D-FDTD) simulation further revealed that Agcubes have a higher electromagnetic field than Ag nanospheres. Compared with PEF sensor, signal QDs-modified aptamer without Agcubes (QDs-Apt) showed a 10-fold higher detection limit. The linear range and detection limit of the Agcubes@SiO 2 -QDs-Apt were 0.1-100 μM, 87.3 nM, respectively. Furthermore, the PEF sensor was applied to analysis BH in the berberine hydrochloride tablets, compound berberine tablet and urine with good recoveries of 98.25-102.05%. The development of high-performance sensors for doxycycline (DOX) detection is necessary because its residue accumulation will cause serious harm to human health and the environment. Here, a novel tri-emission ratiometric fluorescence sensor was proposed by using "post-mixing" strategy of different emissions fluorescence molecularly imprinted polymers with salicylamide as dummy template (DMIPs). BSA was chosen as assistant functional monomer, and also acted as sensitizers for the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect of DOX. The blue-emitting carbon dots and the red-emitting CdTe quantum dots were separately introduced into DMIPs as the response signals. Upon DOX recognition within 2 min, blue and red fluorescence of the tri-emission DMIPs sensor were quenched while green fluorescence of DOX was enhanced, resulting in a wide range of color variations observed over bluish violet-rosered-light pink-orange-yellow-green with a detection limit of 0.061 μM. The sensor possessed highly selective recognition and was successfully applied to detect DOX in complicated real samples. Moreover, with the fluorescent color collection and data processing, the smartphone-assisted visual detection of the sensors showed satisfied sensitivity with low detection limit. Surface reaction is a prominent aspect that affects the efficiency of photocatalysis. In this work, acid theory was employed to facilitate the reaction dynamics and enhance the interfacial effect between photocatalysts and target molecules. The photocatalytic removal efficiency of NTP was 66 % for bare CdS in 50 min with apparent rate constants of 0.023 compare to 96 % with apparent rate constants of 0.065 for 5% Ce-CdS. Purpose: Radiolabeled graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets has been one of the most extensively studied nanoplatform for in vivo radioisotope delivery. Herein, we describe the functionalization of the surface of GO nanosheets with Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles, cysteine amino acid as an interface ligand, and cadmium telluride quantum dots., Materials and Methods: To enable In vivo PET imaging, the GO@Fe 3 O 4 -cys-CdTe QDs were labeled with 68 Ga to yield [ 68 Ga] Ga-Go@ Fe 3 O 4 -Cys-CdTe QDs. Furthermore, serum stability tests were performed and the biological behavior of the nanocomposite was evaluated in rats bearing fibrosarcoma tumor., Results: Liver, blood and tumor were the most accumulated sites at 1 h after the injection, and the radiolabeled nanocomposite as a PET/MRI imaging agent showed fast depletion from body and acceptable tumor uptake., Conclusion: Magnetic (Fe 3 O 4 ) and fluorescent components (CdTe QDs) along with a positron-emitting radionuclide will help to design a multimodal imaging system (PET/MRI/OI) which will offer the advantages of combined imaging techniques and further possible used in localized radionuclide therapy. Organic photoelectrochemical transistor (OPECT) has shown substantial potential in the development of next-generation bioanalysis yet is limited by the either-or situation between the photoelectrode types and the channel types. Inspired by the dual-photoelectrode systems, we propose a new architecture of dual-engine OPECT for enhanced signal modulation and its biosensing application. Exemplified by incorporating the CdS/Bi 2 S 3 photoanode and Cu 2 O photocathode within the gate-source circuit of Ag/AgCl-gated poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) channel, the device shows enhanced modulation capability and larger transconductance ( g m ) against the single-photoelectrode ones. Moreover, the light irritation upon the device effectively shifts the peak value of g m to zero gate voltage without degradation and generates larger current steps that are advantageous for the sensitive bioanalysis. Based on the as-developed dual-photoelectrode OPECT, target-mediated recycling and etching reactions are designed upon the CdS/Bi 2 S 3 , which could result in dual signal amplification and realize the sensitive microRNA-155 biodetection with a linear range from 1 fM to 100 pM and a lower detection limit of 0.12 fM.

A study of an integrated OPECT biosensor gate and the EC color-changing region on the same chip was carried out, achieving sensitive detection through bioetching-induced signal changes. Enzymatic bioetching enables specific alkaline phosphatase (ALP) detection by catalyzing the production of CdS, which modulates the channel current and generates a visual signal.

Quantum dots (QDs) are a novel type of nanomaterial that has unique optical and physical characteristics. As such, QDs are highly desired because of their potential to be used in both biomedical and industrial applications. However, the mass adoption of QDs usage has raised concerns among the scientific community regarding QDs' toxicity. Although many papers have reported the negative impact of QDs on a cellular level, the exact mechanism of the QDs' toxicity is still unclear. In this investigation, we study the adverse effects of QDs by focusing on one of the most important cellular processes: actin polymerization and depolymerization. Our results showed that QDs act in a biphasic manner where lower concentrations of QDs stimulate the polymerization of actin, while high concentrations of QDs inhibit actin polymerization. Furthermore, we found that QDs can bind to filamentous actin (F-actin) and cause bundling of the filament while also promoting actin depolymerization. Through this study, we found a novel mechanism in which QDs negatively influence cellular processes and exert toxicity.

A photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor for the sensitive detection of thrombin (TB) was established. Co-sensitized combination of TiO 2 nanoparticles combined with modified cadmium sulfide and cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdS/CdTe QDs) was utilized as a photoactive material. Successful growth of CdS/CdTe quantum dots on mesoporous TiO 2 films occured by successive ion-layer adsorption and reaction. This interesting formation of co-sensitive structure is conducive to enhancing the photocurrent response by improving the use rate of light energy. Additionally, the step-level structure of CdS/CdTe QDs and TiO 2 NPs shows a wide range of visible light absorption, facilitating the dissociation of excitons into free electrons and holes. Consequently, the photoelectric response of the PEC analysis platform is significantly enhanced. This constructed PEC aptasensor shows good detection of thrombin with a low detection limit (0.033 pM) and a wide linear range (0.0001-100 nM) in diluted actual human serum samples. In addition, this PEC aptasensor also has the characteristics of good stability and good reproducibility, which provides a novel insight for the quantitative measurement of other similar analytes., (© 2024. QDs are semiconductor nanocrystalline materials with distinct optical and electronic characteristics due to their microscopic size and quantum mechanical properties. They are often composed of materials such as cadmium selenide (CdSe), cadmium telluride (CdTe), or indium phosphide (InP) and are typically in the size range of 2 to 10 nanometers in diameter. These tiny particles are used in various scientific and technological applications. Some key characteristics and applications of quantum dots are size-dependent Optical Properties with tunable emission. The color of light emitted by quantum dots highly depends on their size. Smaller QDs emit blue or green light, while larger ones emit red or near-infrared light. This tunability makes them valuable in various applications, especially in molecular medicine and oncology research. Quantum dots can exhibit a high quantum yield, meaning they efficiently emit light when excited, making them excellent fluorescent probes for non-invasive imaging. This review discusses the applications of QDs and their role in biomedical research and patient care, focusing on non-invasive imaging and preventive oncology.

This study presents the development of a sensitive and simple enhanced ratiometric fluorescence sensing platform in the consist of CdTe quantum dots (QDs), carbon dots (CDs), and hepatitis B core antibody labeled with horseradish peroxidase (HBcAb-HRP) for the visual analysis of H 2 O 2 and glucose. The sulfur atoms in HBcAb-HRP have a strong affinity for Cd(II), which effectively enhances the fluorescence intensity of the CdTe QDs due to the generation of more radiative centers at the CdTe/Cd-SR complex. In the presence of H 2 O 2 , the Cd-S bonds are oxidized to form disulfide products and results in linear fluorescence quenching, while CDs maintain stable. Becasue glucose can be converted into H 2 O 2 with the aid of glucose oxidase, this sensing platform can also be used for analyzing glucose. The detection limits for H 2 O 2 and glucose are 2.9 μmol L -1 with RSD of 2.6% and 1.6 μmol L -1 with RSD of 2.4% respectively. In addition, under UV lamp irradiation, the orange-yellow CdTe QDs gradually quench with increasing H 2 O 2 and glucose, while the blue CDs remain unchanged. A color change from orange-yellow to blue enables a visual semi-quantitative determination of H 2 O 2 in commercial contact lens solution and glucose in human serum without any pretreatment. Acid-sensitive CdTe quantum dots-loaded alginate hydrogel (CdTe QDs-AH) beads were designed for the visual detection of SO 2 residues. As proof of concept, two types of CdTe QDs were selected as model probes and embedded in AH beads. The entire test was performed within 25 min in a modified double-layer test tube with one bead fixed above the sample solution. Adding citric acid and heating at 70 ℃ for 20 min transformed the sulfites in the solution into SO 2 gas, which then quenched the fluorescence of the CdTe QDs-AH beads. Using this assay, qualitative, naked-eye detection of SO 2 residues was achieved in the concentration range of 25-300 ppm, as well as precise quantification was possible based on the difference in the average fluorescence brightness of the beads before and after the reaction. Zilpaterol hydrochloride (zilpaterol) is used in animal feed as it can increase the lean meat mass. However, consuming zilpaterol-containing animal products may damage human health. Therefore, rapid detection of zilpaterol is attracting increasing research attention. This study aimed to developed a fast, accurate, and ultrasensitive fluorescence immunoassay based on CdTe quantum dots (QDs). A CdTe QD fluorescence sensor was synthesized from thioglycolic acid using a simple hydrothermal method. The morphology and structure of the CdTe QDs were characterized using transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The detection limits of our method in swine urine and pork samples were 0.5 μg/L and 1.2 μg/kg, respectively. A wide linear range of 0.1-10000 μg/L (R 2  = 0.996) was achieved. Both within-run precision (CVw) and between-run precision (CV b ) were ≤ 10 %. Malachite green (MG) possesses high toxicity, therefore, the detection of MG in fish tissues is of vital importance. A novel core-shell MIPs doped CdTe quantum dots coated silica nanoparticles (CdTe-MIP/SiO 2 NPs) were synthesized via a simple one-pot strategy. The materials were characterized carefully. The resulting CdTe-MIP/SiO 2 NPs were coated on the thin layer chromatography plate, and coupled with miniaturized fluorimeter for fluorescence detection of MG in fish samples. The resulting CdTe-MIP/SiO 2 NPs based system possessed good linearity (0.01 ∼ 20 μmol/L), high recoveries (98.36 %∼101.45 %) and low detection limit (3.7 nmol/L) for MG. Furthermore, CdTe-MIP/SiO 2 NPs based system were employed to measure fish samples spiked with MG, meanwhile, HPLC was utilized to evaluate the accuracy and reliability. Given that intricate toxicological profiles exist among different antibiotics and pose serious threats to the environment and human health, synchronous analysis of multiple residues becomes crucial. Sensor arrays show potential to achieve the above purpose, but it is challenging to develop easy-to-use and high-sensitivity tools because the state-of-the-art arrays often require more than one recognition unit and are monosignal dependent. Here we exquisitely designed a fluorescent nanoprobe (2-aminoterephthalic acid-anchored CdTe quantum dots with Eu 3+ coordination, CdTe-ATPA-Eu 3+ ) featuring triple emissions at the same excitation as the only element to fabricate a luminescent sensor array with ratiometric calculations for identifying multiple antibiotics. By taking tetracycline, chlortetracycline, doxycycline, oxytetracycline, penicillin G, and sulfamethoxazole as models, the six species exhibited distinguishable motivation or/and quenching impacts on the three emissions of CdTe-ATPA-Eu 3+ , which were employed as indicators to perform the ratiometric logical operation and further combined with pattern recognition analysis for multitarget determination. Evidently, such a design exhibits two advances: (1) with the triple-emission probe as the sole receptor requiring neither internal nor external adjustments, the fabricated array acts as an extremely facile tool for multianalyte detection; (2) the ratiometric calculations offer excellent sensitivity and reliability for high-performance determination. Consequently, accurate identification and quantification of individual antibiotics and their combinations at various levels were verified in both laboratory and practical matrices. Our work provides a new tool for simultaneously detecting multiple antibiotics, and it will inspire the development of advanced sensor arrays for multitarget analysis.

In view of the urgent need for fluoroquinolones contamination detection in the fields of food safety, a novel aptasensor based on the fluorescence quenching property of graphene oxide (GO) and the fluorescence characteristic of cadmium selenide quantum dots (CdSe QDs) was developed for fluoroquinolones highly sensitive detection in this work. The CdSe QDs with carboxyl-rich surface were synthesized successfully and fluoresced at 525 nm under the optimal excitation light of 366 nm. Based on the hydrophobic and π-π stacking between GO and aptamer, aptamer labeled by CdSe QDs fluorescence (CdSe QDs-apt) were adsorbed by GO and the fluorescence of CdSe QDs was quenched. After the aptamer combined specifically with fluoroquinolones, greater specific force lead to the desorption of CdSe QDs-apt from GO and fluorescence recovery. Represented by Ciprofloxacin (CIP), a member of fluoroquinolones, the fluorescence emission increased with the increasing of CIP concentrations from 8 nM to 500 nM, and the detection limit was 0.42 nM. The spiked recoveries in real samples of honey and milk were 91.5-96.9 % and 90.3-95.2 %, respectively, indicating that the aptasensor was reliable. Moreover, the fluorescence responses of multiple members of fluoroquinolones were found to be consistent, denoting that the fluorescence aptasensor can be used to detect the total amount of multiple members of fluoroquinolones. Microbial biosynthesis, as an alternative method for producing quantum dots (QDs), has gained attention because it can be conducted under mild and environmentally friendly conditions, distinguishing it from conventional chemical and physical synthesis approaches. However, there is currently no method to selectively control this biosynthesis process in a subset of microbes within a population using external stimuli. In this study, we have attained precise and selective control over the microbial biosynthesis of QDs through the utilization of an optogenetically engineered Escherichia coli (E. coli). The recombinant E. coli is designed to express smCSE enzyme, under the regulation of eLightOn system, which can be activated by blue light. The smCSE enzymes use L-cysteine and Cd 2+ as substrates to form CdS QDs. This system enables light-inducible bacterial biosynthesis of QDs in precise patterns within a hydrogel for information encryption. As the biosynthesis progresses, the optical characteristics of the QDs change, allowing living materials containing the recombinant E. coli to display time-dependent patterns that self-destruct after reading. A novel competitive ECL immunosensor for detection of 17β-Estradiol (E2) has been fabricated successfully. CdSe-ZnSe nanocomposites (CdSe-ZnSe NCs) with high catalytic properties, large surface area and good conductivity were used synergistically as the ECL nanocarriers of Pt nanoparticles (PtNPs). The ECL intensity of CdSe-ZnSe NCs increased and stabilized with luminol-PtNPs (luminol-PtNPs@CdSe-ZnSe NCs) because of electron transfer. To achieve the successful assembling of competitive ultrasensitive ECL immunosensor with high sensitivity and synergistic effect, Ag@TiO 2 core-shell was introduced as label. Ag@TiO 2 acted as a signal amplifier and also exhibited the high catalytic activity towards H 2 O 2 . This firmly anchored the E2 Antigen with covalent bond and converted the longer wavelength radiations to shorter wavelength. Under optimized conditions, our proposed strategy quantify the selective and reliable analysis of E2 with detection limit of 2.51 fg/mL (S/N = 3) within the linear range of 0.0001-30 ng/mL. The assembled synergistic strategy-based ECL immunosensor manifested the promising sensitivity, selectability along with high level of repeatability. Background: As one of the most potent environmental estrogens, 17β-estradiol (E2), which can be enriched into organisms through the food chain and cause harmful biological effects in humans, has been frequently detected in the water environment of the world. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatograohy-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) have been widely used for quantification of E2. Despite excellent accuracy, tedious pretreatment and expensive instruments result in their limited application. It is clear that there is an urgent need to establish simple, sensitive and accurate methods for the determination of E2., Results: A split aptamer-based sandwich-type ratiometric biosensor based on split aptamer was developed by coupling photoelectrochemical and electrochemical assays for E2 detection. For analysis, the two fragments of split aptamer recognized E2 by forming sandwich structure, which triggered hybridization chain reaction (HCR) to produce double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) with CdTe quantum dots (QDs) labeled hairpin DNA. The resultant dsDNA can further absorb methylene blue (MB) to sensitize CdTe QDs for an enlarged photocurrent (I PEC ) and output a redox current of I MB , and both of them acted as response signals for detection; [Fe(CN) 6 ] 3-/4- probe produced redox current of I [Fe(CN)6] 3-/4- as reference signal. Using I MB /I [Fe(CN)6] 3-/4- and I PEC /I [Fe(CN)6] 3-/4- as yardsticks, the developed split aptamer-based sandwich-type ratiometric biosensor provides two linear ranges of 0.1-5000 pg mL -1 for I MB /I [Fe(CN)6] 3-/4- and 0.1-10000 pg mL -1 for I PEC /I [Fe(CN)6] 3-/4- with detection limits of 0.06 pg mL -1 and 0.02 pg mL -1 , respectively., Significance: These results of the biosensor are benefiting from the coupling of photoelectrochemical (PEC) and electrochemical (EC) assays as well as the unique cooperative recognition mechanism of split aptamer. Microelectrode-based photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing is a newly developed and promising analytical technique for in vivo analysis. However, the inadequate specificity in complex environment of living bodies restricted its further in vivo application. Herein, we utilized a small molecule probe as the energy acceptor to quench the photocurrent of CdTe quantum dots through energy transfer. The efficiency of energy transfer was modulated by the concentration of target SO 2 , resulting in changes in photocurrent. The chemical recognition reaction between small molecule probes and SO 2 enhanced the specificity of PEC sensing, thus guaranteeing its in vivo applications. Furthermore, with the use of light addressing strategy, simultaneous detection in the multiple brain regions was implemented. The wide application of CdSe quantum dots (QDs) increases its stress risk to sewage treatment systems. This study evaluated the response of nitrification performance, floc characteristics and microbial community of nitrifying sludge under long-term exposure to CdSe QDs. Results showed CdSe QDs (≥1 mg/L) would decrease the activity of ammonia monooxygenase (AMO). Under the stress of 30 mg/L CdSe QDs, the activity of AMO was reduced by 66%, while the activities of hydroxylamine oxidase and nitrite oxidoreductase were enhanced by 19.1% and 26%, respectively. Thus, the final nitrification effects were not adversely affected, and the production rates of NO 2 - -N and NO 3 - -N were accelerated. Additionally, CdSe QDs improved biomass concentration in sludge and maintained the stability of sludge settleability. High throughput sequencing analysis showed that CdSe QDs evidently reduced the abundance and diversity of microbial community in nitrifying sludge. The abundances of amino acid metabolism and lipid metabolism were enriched. Moreover, CdSe QDs decreased the fluorescence intensity of tryptophan-like protein from 2,326 to 1,179 a.u. in loosely bound extracellular polymeric substances (EPSs) and from 3,792 to 3,117 a.u. in tightly bound EPSs. To relieve CdSe QD stress, the polysaccharide content increased from 0.31 to 0.61 mg/g MLSS and intracellular antioxidant defense was activated. With CdSe QD level increasing to 30 mg/L, the total antioxygenic capacity and the activities of catalase were enhanced up to 411% and 143.2%, respectively. Reversible electrochromic supercapacitors (ESCs) have attracted considerable interest as visual display screens. The use of ESCs in combination with a photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor promises to improve the detection efficiency. Herein, a visual PEC biosensor is developed by introducing a circuit module between a PEC-sensing platform (PSP) and a reversible ESC for Cry1Ab protein detection. In PSP, a type II MgTi 2 O 5 /CdSe heterojunction effectively drives charge separation by their cross-matched band gap structures, generating an amplified photocurrent. Next, the circuit module is designed to connect the PSP and ESC, realizing the signal conversion from photocurrent to voltage. ESC, as a visual display screen, produces reversible color changes with different voltages. As the concentration of Cry1Ab increases, the photocurrent decreases due to the specific binding between the aptamer and Cry1Ab in PSP, while the color of the reversible ESC changes from green to blue. To improve the integrity of the device, a portable PEC biosensor is further constructed via three-dimensional printing for dual-modal Cry1Ab protein detection, thus collecting both PEC and visual signals. The linear ranges are 0.3-3000 ng mL -1 for PEC mode and 1-1000 ng mL -1 for visual mode. This work presents a portable, efficient, sensitive, and visualized detection system, providing an important reference for practical visualization applications.

Once nanoparticles enter into the biological milieu, nanoparticle-biomacromolecule complexes, especially the protein corona, swiftly form, which cause obvious effects on the physicochemical properties of both nanoparticles and proteins. Here, the thermodynamic parameters of the interactions between water-soluble GSH-CdSe/ZnS core/shell quantum dots (GSH-QDs) and human serum albumin (HSA) were investigated with the aid of labeling fluorescence of HSA. It was proved that the labeling fluorescence originating from a fluorophore (BDP-CN for instance) could be used to investigate the interactions between QDs and HSA. Gel electrophoresis displayed that the binding ratio between HSA and QDs was ∼2:1 by direct visualization. Fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) results indicated that the distance between the QDs and the fluorophore BDP-CN in HSA was 7.2 nm, which indicated that the distance from the fluorophore to the surface of the QDs was ∼4.8 nm. Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) results showed that HSA formed a monolayer of a protein corona with a thickness of 5.5 nm. According to the spatial structure of HSA, we could speculate that the binding site of QDs was located at the side edge (not the triangular plane) of HSA with an equilateral triangular prism. The elaboration of the thermodynamic parameters, binding ratio, and interaction orientation will highly improve the fundamental understanding of the formation of protein corona. This work has guiding significance for the exploration of the interactions between proteins and nanomaterials.

Compared with a single semiconductor, the heterojunction formed by two different semiconductors usually has higher light utilization and better photoelectric performance. By using stable TiO 2 nanotubes as the main subject, CdSe/TiO 2 NTs heterojunctions were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. XRD, TEM, SEM, PL, UV-vis, and EIS were used to characterize the fabricated CdSe/TiO 2 NTs. Under visible light irradiation, CdSe/TiO 2 NTs heterojunctions exhibited a higher absorption intensity and lower degree of photogenerated carrier recombination than TiO 2 . The electrons and holes were proven to be effectively separated in this heterojunction via theoretical calculation. Under CdSe/TiO 2 NTs' optimal conditions, the glucose concentrations (10-90 μM) had a linear relationship with the photocurrent value, and the detection limit was 3.1 μM. Moreover, the CdSe/TiO 2 NTs sensor exhibited good selectivity and stability. Based on the experimental data and theoretical calculations, its PEC sensing mechanism was also illuminated.

Multiplexed gene assay for simultaneously detecting the multi-targets of nucleic acids is strongly anticipated for the accurate diseases diagnosis and prediction, and all commercial available gene assays for IVD are a kind of single-target assay. Herein, a dual-potential encoded and coreactant-free electrochemiluminescence (ECL) strategy is proposed for the multiplexed gene assay, which can be conveniently carried out by directly oxidizing the same luminescent tag of dual-stabilizers-capped CdTe nanocrystals (NCs). The CdTe NCs linked with sulfhydryl-RNA via Cd-S bond merely exhibits one ECL process around 0.32 V with a narrow triggering-potential-window of 0.35 V, while CdTe NCs linked with amino-RNA via amide linkage solely gives off one ECL process around 0.82 V with a narrow triggering-potential-window of 0.30 V. Multiplexing ECL of both sulfhydryl-RNA-functionalized CdTe NCs and amino-RNA-functionalized CdTe NCs can be utilized to simultaneously detect the open reading frame 1ab (ORF1ab) and the nucleoprotein (N) genes without crosstalk, in which ECL of sulfhydryl-RNA-functionalized CdTe NCs can dynamically determine ORF1ab from 200 aM to 10 fM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 100 aM, while ECL of amino-RNA-functionalized CdTe NCs can linearly detect N gene from 5 fM to 1 pM with a LOD of 2 fM. A molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs)-isolated AuNP-enhanced fluorescence sensor, AuNP@MIPs-CdTe QDs, was developed for highly sensitive and selective detection of oxytetracycline (OTC) in aqueous medium. The developed sensor combined the advantages of strong fluorescence signal of metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF), high selectivity of MIPs, and stability of CdTe QDs. The MIPs shell with specific recognition served as an isolation layer to adjust the distance between AuNP and CdTe QDs to optimize the MEF system. The sensor demonstrated the detection limit as low as 5.22 nM (2.40 μg/L) for a concentration range of 0.1-3.0 μM OTC and good recovery rates of 96.0-103.0% in real water samples. In addition, high specificity recognition for OTC over its analogs was achieved with an imprinting factor of 6.10. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was utilized to simulate the polymerization process of MIPs and revealed H-bond formation as the mainly binding sites of APTES and OTC, and finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) analysis was employed to obtain the distribution of electromagnetic field (EM) for AuNP@MIPs-CdTe QDs. Herein, a multifunctional electrochemiluminescence (ECL) and photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor based on exchange of Ag + with CdTe QDs was developed for dual-mode detection of thrombin. First, CdTe QDs assembled on an electrode displayed superior ECL and PEC signals. At the same time, C-rich hairpin (HP) DNA linked to silicon spheres loaded a large amount of Ag + , and the specific binding of thrombin to an aptamer led to the release of DNA P; then, DNA P interacted with HP DNA to produce numerous Ag + ions by an enzyme-digestion amplification reaction. Ag + underwent ion exchange with CdTe QDs to generate AgTe/CdTe QDs, resulting in much reversed PEC and changed ECL signals for dual-mode detection of thrombin. This work takes advantage of outstanding multi-signals of QDs coupled with convenient ion exchange to achieve multi-mode detection of the target, avoiding false positive or false negative signals generated in the traditional detection process, and thus can be used for the rapid detection of various biomolecules in actual samples.

This work reports the development and application of a highly selective core@shell-based quantum dot-molecularly imprinted polymer (QD@MIP) sensor for the detection of sulfadiazine (SDZ)-an antibiotic which belongs to the sulfonamide family. The synthesis of the smart material or MIP (molecularly imprinted polymer) was carried out by a precipitation method directly on the quantum dot surface, which played the role of a fluorescent probe in the optical sensor. The synthesized polymer was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Fluorescence experiments were performed in order to evaluate the effects of pH, interaction time of the QD@MIP with the analyte and SDZ concentration in different matrices. Under optimized conditions, a linear concentration range of 10.0-60.0 ppm and a limit of detection of 3.33 ppm were obtained. The repeatability and reproducibility of the proposed QD@MIP were evaluated in terms of the RSD, where RSD values of less than 5% were obtained in both tests. Selectivity studies were carried out in the presence of four possible interfering substances with quenching properties, and the signals obtained for these interferents confirmed the excellent selectivity of the proposed sensor; the imprinting factor value obtained for SDZ was 1.64. Finally, the proposed sensor was applied in real animal-based food samples using a spiked concentration of SDZ, where the recovery values obtained were above 90% (experiments were performed in triplicate).

A method was established for detecting the content of nitrofurazone (NFZ) by fluorescence quenching of N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) coated cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdTe QDs). By means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and multispectral methods such as fluorescence and ultraviolet visible spectra (UV-vis), the synthesized CdTe QDs were characterized. The quantum yield (φ) of CdTe QDs was measured as 0.33 by reference method. The CdTe QDs had a better stability, the RSD of fluorescence intensity was 1.51% in three months. NFZ quenching the emission light of CdTe QDs was observed. The analyses of Stern-Volmer and time-resolved fluorescence suggested the quenching was static. The binding constants (K a ) between NFZ and CdTe QDs were 1.14 × 10 4 (293 K), 0.74 × 10 4 (303 K) and 0.51 × 10 4 (313 K) L mol -1 . The hydrogen bond or van der Waals force was the dominated binding force between NFZ and CdTe QDs. The interaction was further characterized by UV-vis absorption as well as Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR). Using fluorescence quenching effect, a quantitative determination of NFZ was carried out. The optimal experimental conditions were studied and determined as following: pH was 7 and contact time was 10 min. The effects of reagent addition sequence, temperature and the foreign substances including some metals (Mg 2+ ; Zn 2+ ; Ca 2+ ; K + ; Cu 2+ ), glucose, bovine serum albumin (BSA) and furazolidone on the determination were studied. There was a high correlation between the concentration of NFZ (0.40 - 39.63 μg mL -1 ) and F 0 /F with the standard curve F 0 /F = 0.0262c + 0.9910 (r = 0.9994). The detection limit (LOD) reached 0.04 μg mL -1 (3S 0 /S). The contents of NFZ in beef and bacteriostatic liquid were detected. A portable fluorescence immunosensor based on the CdSe/CdS/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) with multiple-shell structure was fabricated for the precise quantification of olaquindox (OLA). The QDs labeled anti-OLA antibody used as bioprobe played an important role in the design and preparation of a lateral flow test strip. Due to the strong fluorescent intensity of QDs, the sensitivity is greatly improved. The quantitative results were obtained using a fluorescent strip scan reader within 8 min, and the calculated limit of detection for OLA at 0.12 µg/kg, which was 2.7 times more sensitive than that of the conventional colloidal gold-based strips method. Acceptable recovery of 85.0%-95.5% was obtained by the spiked samples. With the goal to investigate biological phenomena at a single-cell level, we designed, synthesized and tested a molecular probe based on Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) between a highly luminescent quantum dot (QD) as a donor and a fluorophore or fluorescence quencher as an acceptor linked by a specific peptide. In principle, QD luminescence, effectively dissipated in the probe, is switched on after the cleavage of the peptide by a protease and the release of the quencher. We proposed a novel synthesis strategy of a probe. A two-step synthesis consists of: (i) Conjugation of CdTe QDs functionalized by -COOH groups of succinic acid on the nanoparticle surface with the designed specific peptide (GTADVEDTSC) using a ligand-exchange approach; (ii) A fast, high-yield reaction of amine-reactive succinimidyl group on the BHQ-2 quencher with N-terminal of the peptide. This way, any crosslinking between individual nanoparticles and any nonspecific conjugation bonds are excluded. The analysis of the product after the first step proved a high reaction yield and nearly no occurrence of unreacted QDs, a prerequisite of the specificity of our luminescent probe. Its parameters evaluated as Michaelis-Menten description of enzymatic kinetics are similar to products published by other groups. Our research is focused on the fluorescence microscopy analyses of biologically active molecules, such as proteolytic active caspases, playing important roles in cell signaling regulations in normal and diseased states. Consequently, they are attractive targets for clinical diagnosis and medical therapy. The ultimate goal of our work was to synthesize a new QD luminescent probe for a long-time quantitative monitoring of active caspase-3/7 distribution in apoptotic osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells treated with camptothecin. As a result of comparison, our synthetized luminescent probe provides longer imaging times of caspases than commercial products. A photoelectrochemical (PEC) detection platform was built based on the branched rutile/anatase titanium dioxide (RA-TiO 2 ) electrode. Theoretical calculations proved that the type-II band alignment of rutile and anatase could facilitate charge separation in the electrode. The self-generated electric field at the interface of two phases can enhance the electron transfer efficiency of the electrode. Carboxylated CdTe quantum dots (QDs) were applied as signal amplification factors. Without the target DNA presence, the CdTe QDs were riveted to the surface of the electrode by the hairpin probe DNA. The sensitization of CdTe QDs increased the photocurrent of the electrode significantly. When the target DNA was present, the structural changes of the hairpin probe DNA resulted in the failure of the sensitized structure. Benefiting from excellent electrode structure design and CdTe QDs sensitization strategy, the PEC assays could achieve highly sensitive and specific detection of target DNA in the range of 1 fM to 1 nM, with a detection limit of 0.23 fM. The electrode construction method proposed in this article can open a new avenue for the preparation of more efficient PEC sensing devices.

We applied transient absorption spectroscopy to study the early photodynamics in a system composed of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) and cytochrome c (Cyt c) protein. In the QDs and Cyt c mixtures, about 25 % of the excited QD electrons quickly relax (∼23 ps) to the ground state and roughly 75 % decay on slower time scale - mostly due to quenching by Cyt c. On the basis of the assumed model, we estimated the contribution of electron transfer and other mechanisms to this quenching. The primary quenching mechanism is probably energy transfer but electron transfer makes a significant contribution (∼8 %), resulting in photoreduction of Cyt c. The lifetime of one fraction of reduced Cyt c (35-90 %) is ∼ 1 ms and the lifetime of the remaining fraction was longer than the ∼ 50-ms time window of the experiment. In this work, a potential-resolved electrochemiluminescence (ECL) multiplex immunoassay (MIA) was developed using zirconium-based metal-organic framework (MOF) nanoparticles with intense self-ECL as an anodic ECL tag and CdTe nanocrystals (NCs) as a cathodic ECL tag. ECL luminophore 5,5'-(anthracene-9,10-diyl)diisophthalic acid (H 4 ADIP) and coreactant hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) bound to zirconium nodes in the MOF, giving Zr-ADIP-HMT nanoparticles. Benefiting from the intrareticular charge transfer (ICT) between the oxidized ligands of H 4 ADIP and HMT via hydrogen bonds, the intense self-ECL from Zr-ADIP-HMT was applied to the potential-resolved ECL MIA without an exogenous anodic coreactant, which can eliminate detrimental effects of multiplex coreactants and anodic ECL emission from CdTe NCs. The ICT within Zr-ADIP-HMT nanoparticles could shorten the electron transport path and reduce the complexity of radical intermediate transport. The ECL intensity from Zr-ADIP-HMT was 18.6-fold that from the mixture of H 4 ADIP and HMT. In potential-resolved ECL MIA, two lung cancer biomarkers, carcinoembryonic antigen and neuron-specific enolase, were adopted as model analytes, with detection limits of 18 and 5.3 fg·mL -1 , respectively. The dual-ligand Zr-ADIP-HMT nanoparticles provide a proof of concept using ICT-based self-ECL luminophores for potential-resolved ECL MIAs with isolated coreactants.

Developing hollow-structure quantum dot carriers to increase quantum luminous efficiency is a creative idea for designing a novel sensor. A ratiometric hollow CdTe@H-ZIF-8/CDs@MIPs sensor was developed for the sensitive and selective detection of dopamine (DA). CdTe QDs and CDs were used as the reference signal and recognition signal, respectively, and thus showed a visual effect. MIPs provided high selectivity toward DA. The TEM image demonstrated that the sensor was a hollow structure, which could have ample opportunity to excite quantum dots to emit light through multiple light scattering through holes. In the presence of DA, the fluorescence intensity of the optimum CdTe@H-ZIF-8/CDs@MIPs was remarkably quenched by DA, achieving a linear range of 0-600 nM and a limit of detection of 12.35 nM. The developed ratiometric fluorescence sensor showed an obvious and meaningful color change with a gradual increase in DA concentration under a UV lamp. Moreover, the optimum CdTe@H-ZIF-8/CDs@MIPs was remarkably sensitive and selective in detecting DA among various analogs and showed good anti-interference ability. The HPLC method also further confirmed that CdTe@H-ZIF-8/CDs@MIPs shows good practical application prospects.

Antibiotic residues pose a serious threat to ecosystems and food safety. Developing convenient, visual, and on-site detection methods is therefore in high demand and has a practical purpose. In this work, a near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe with an analysis platform based on a smartphone has been constructed for quantitative and on-site detection of metronidazole (MNZ). CdTe quantum dots with NIR emission at 710 nm (QD710) were prepared by using a simple hydrothermal method and showed good properties. A spectral overlap between absorption of MNZ and excitation of QD710 resulted in an effective inner filter effect (IFE) between QD710 and MNZ. Because of the IFE, the fluorescence of QD710 decreased gradually with increasing concentrations of MNZ. Based on the fluorescence response, quantitative detection and visualization of MNZ was achieved. NIR fluorescence analysis and the special IFE between probe and target can improve sensitivity and selectivity for MNZ. Additionally, these were also utilized for quantitative detection of MNZ in real food samples and the results were reliable and satisfactory. Meanwhile, a portable visual analysis platform in a smartphone was constructed for on-site analysis of MNZ, which can be used as an alternative method for detection of MNZ residues in situations with limited instrumental conditions. Therefore, this work provides a convenient, visual, and real-time analysis method for detection of MNZ and the analysis platform shows great potential for commercialization.

In this paper, glutathione (GSH)-coated Zn-doped CdTe quantum dots (QDs) with different particle sizes were synthesized using the "reflow method", and the interaction mechanism between the two QDs and lactoferrin (LF) was investigated systemically with different spectroscopic methods. The steady-state fluorescence spectra showed that the LF formed a tight complex with the two QDs through static bursting and that the electrostatic force was the main driving force between the two LF-QDs systems. The complex generation process was found to be spontaneous (ΔG < 0) and accompanied by exothermic and increasing degrees of freedom (ΔH < 0, ΔS > 0) by using the temperature-dependent fluorescence spectroscopy. The critical transfer distance (R 0 ) and donor-acceptor distance (r) of the two LF-QDs systems were obtained based on the fluorescence resonance energy transfer theory. In addition, it was observed that the QDs changed the secondary and tertiary structures of LF, leading to an increase in the hydrophobicity of LF. Further, the nano-effect of orange QDs on LF is much larger than that of green QDs. The above results provide a basis for metal-doped QDs with LF in safe nano-bio applications.

Optical single molecule detection is normally achieved via amplifying the total emission of photons of luminophores and is strongly anticipated to extend the commercialized application of chemiluminescence (CL). To overcome the limited CL photons of molecule luminophores, herein, a nanocrystal (NC) luminophore self-amplified strategy is proposed to repetitively excite CL luminophores for amplifying the total CL photons per luminophore, which can be exploited to perform CL immunoassays (CLIAs) toward single molecule detection via employing KMnO 4 as the CL triggering agent and the dual-stabilizer-capped CdTe NCs as the CL luminophore. KMnO 4 can oxidize the S element from each stabilizer of mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) and release enough energy to excite the CdTe core for flash CL. The substantial MPA around each CdTe core enables every CdTe luminophore to be repetitively excited and give off amplified total CL photons in a self-enhanced way. The CL of CdTe NCs/KMnO 4 can release all photons rapidly, and the collection of all these photons can be utilized to determine the model analyte of thyroid-stimulating hormone antigen (TSH) with a limit of detection of 5 ag/mL (S/N = 3), which is corresponding to about 2-4 TSH molecules in a 20 μL sample. The whole immunologic operating process can be terminated within 6 min. This strategy of repetitively breaking the CL reaction involving chemical bonds within one luminophore is promising for semi-automatic as well as fully automatic single molecule detection and extends the commercialized application of CL immunodiagnosis.

Herein, we report a fluorescence strategy for the homogeneous and simultaneous analysis of urine miRNA-375 and miRNA-148a. The target miRNAs in urine bonded the devised dumbbell-shaped "C-Ag + -C" and "T-Hg 2+ -T" hairpin structures that could trigger cascade enzyme-free amplification. Then, the fluorescent CdTe quantum dots (QDs) and carbon dots (CDs) could selectively recognize Ag + and Hg 2+ , to quantify the dual miRNAs concurrently. Under optimized conditions, the linear range was from 0.1 to 1000 fM and the limits of detection (LOD) for dual miRNAs reached 30 and 25 aM, respectively. The practicality was further evaluated with 45 clinical urine samples including prostate cancer (PC) and other patients, and the results were consistent with the clinical polymerase chain reaction (PCR) kit and ultrasonic and pathological findings. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed that the estimates of the area under the curve (AUC) were 0.739 for the serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and 0.941 for miRNA-375 and 0.946 for miRNA-148a. The sensitivity and specificity reached 75 and 100% for miRNA-375 and 71 and 94% for miRNA-148a, respectively, which was better than serum PSA. This strategy constructed a reliable system for dual miRNA detection in urine samples and proposed new insights into the rapid and noninvasive diagnosis of PC.

Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are the important biomarker for cancer diagnosis and individualized treatment. However, due to the extreme rarity of CTCs (only 1-10 CTCs are found in every milliliter of peripheral blood) high sensitivity and selectivity are urgently needed for CTC detection. Here, a sandwich PEC cytosensor for the ultrasensitive detection of CTCs was developed using the photoactive material Au NP/-Fe 2 O 3 and core-shell CdSe@CdS QD sensitizer. In the proposed  protocol, the CdSe@CdS QD/Au NP/α-Fe 2 O 3 -sensitized structure with cascade band-edge levels could evidently promote the photoelectric conversion efficiency due to suitable light absorption and efficient electron-hole pair recombination inhibition. Additionally, a dendritic aptamer-DNA concatemer was constructed for highly efficient capture of MCF-7 cells carrying CdSe@CdS QDs, a sensitive material. The linear range of this proposed signal-on PEC sensing method was 300 cell mL -1 to 6 × 10 5 cell mL -1 with a detection limit of 3 cell mL -1 , and it demonstrated an ultrasensitive response to CTCs. Furthermore, this PEC sensor enabled accurate detection of  CTCs in serum samples. Coreactant-free electrochemiluminescence (ECL) is promising for removing the exogenous effects of coreactant and simplify the operation procedures and setups of commercialized ECL bioassays. Herein, an electrosterically involved strategy for achieving a low-triggering-potential (+0.21 V vs Ag/AgCl) and coreactant-free ECL from dual-stabilizer-capped CdTe nanocrystals (NCs) is proposed with mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) and hexametaphosphate (HMP) as the capping agents of luminophores. Upon employing the CdTe NCs as the ECL tag for the immunoassay, all the tags in the bioconjugates of the CdTe NCs and the secondary antibody (Ab 2 |CdTe) as well as in the final achieved sandwich-type immunocomplexes can exhibit efficient coreactant-free ECL with an electrosterically involved triggering potential nature. The bioconjugates of Ab 2 |CdTe with Ab 2 no more than 30 kDa, such as the thyroid stimulating hormone (30 kDa) and the recombinant pro-gastrin releasing peptide (ProGRP, 14 kDa), merely exhibit coreactant-free ECL around +0.24 V, while bioconjugates of Ab 2 |CdTe with an Ab 2 beyond 30 kDa only give off coreactant-free ECL around +0.82 V. Due to the further enhanced electrosteric effect in sandwich-type immunocomplexes, only the ECL immunosensor with ProGRP as the target can give off coreactant-free ECL around +0.24 V. The electrosterically involved and coreactant-free ECL of CdTe NCs is consequently utilized to sensitively and selectively determine the molecular protein ProGRP, which demonstrates a wide linearity range from 0.1 to 2000 pg/mL and a low limit of detection at 0.05 pg/mL (S/N = 3). This low-triggering-potential and coreactant-free combined ECL platform indicates that engineering the surface of CdTe NCs with a protein can improve the performance of ECL tags in a protein-weight-involved electrosterical way.

Cadmium sulfide nanoparticles (CdS NPs) have been employed in various fields of nanobiotechnology due to their proven biomedical properties. They are unique in their properties due to their size and shape, and they are popular in the area of biosensors, bioimaging, and antibacterial and anticancer applications. Most CdS NPs are generally synthesized through chemical, physical, or biological methods. Among these methods, biogenic synthesis has attracted more attention due to its high efficiency, environmental friendliness, and biocompatibility features. The green approach was found to be superior to other methods in terms of maintaining the structural characteristics needed for optimal biomedical applications. The size and coating components of CdS NPs play a crucial role in their biomedical activities, such as anticancer, antibacterial, bioimaging, and biosensing applications. CdS NPs have gained significant interest in bioimaging due to their desirable properties, including good dispersion, cell integrity preservation, and efficient light scattering. Despite these, further studies are necessary, particularly in vivo studies to reduce NPs' toxicity. This review discusses the different methods of synthesis, how CdS NPs are characterized, and their applications in the biomedical field.

In this work, by integrating with a highly efficient multilocus domino-like cascade reaction on DNA nanonet, an ultrasensitive PEC biosensor based on dual-sensitized PDA/ZnO@MoS 2 QDs photoactive material as signal probe was proposed for detection of miRNA-182-5p. The dual-sensitized PDA/ZnO@MoS 2 QD composed by both of p-n and S-scheme heterojunctions on electrode generated an extremely high initial PEC signal, which however quenched by CdTe QDs decorated on DNA nanonet owing to the significant p-n quenching effect. Thereafter, the output DNA (RS) from DSN enzyme-assisted target recycling amplification triggered an ingenious multilocus domino-like DNA cascade reaction on DNA nanonet for releasing numerous CdTe QDs. Thanks to the multilocus domino-like mode that owned abundant binding sites for increasing trigger efficiency and drove cascade reaction automatically advance along four stated pathways, the target conversion rate could be improved effectively compared with that of traditional approaches, significantly enhancing the detection sensitivity. Living bio-nano systems for artificial photosynthesis are of growing interest. Typically, these systems use photoinduced charge transfer to provide electrons for microbial metabolic processes, yielding a biosynthetic solar fuel. Here, we demonstrate an entirely different approach to constructing a living bio-nano system, in which electrogenic bacteria respire semiconductor nanoparticles to support nanoparticle photocatalysis. Semiconductor nanocrystals are highly active and robust photocatalysts for hydrogen (H 2 ) evolution, but their use is hindered by the oxidative side of the reaction. In this system, Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 provides electrons to a CdSe nanocrystalline photocatalyst, enabling visible light-driven H 2 production. Unlike microbial electrolysis cells, this system requires no external potential. Illuminating this system at 530 nm yields continuous H 2 generation for 168 h, which can be lengthened further by replenishing bacterial nutrients.

A method for simultaneous labeling and multicolor fluorescence imaging of different hepatic immune cells below freezing point is established based on quantum dots. In the experiment, carbon quantum dots with emission wavelength of 435 nm, CdTe@CdS quantum dots at 542 nm and CdSe@ZnS quantum dots at 604 nm are synthesized respectively, it is found that when the mass fractions of KCl (as antifreeze) are 12 %, 14 %, and 12 %, respectively, the three quantum dot dispersion systems remain liquid state at -20 °C. After they are conjugated with the corresponding secondary antibodies, agarose gel electrophoresis, circular dichroism and capillary electrophoresis confirm the effectiveness of conjugation. By indirect immunofluorescence method, the above three quantum dot fluorescent probes are used to simultaneously and specifically target a variety of liver immune cells, and the multi-color simultaneous imaging of different liver immune cells is realized under the same excitation wavelength, it is found that hepatic macrophages are arranged radially in the liver, hepatic stellate cells present punctate distribution, and hepatic sinusoidal endothelial cells present circular distribution, which is consistent with the results of H&E staining and ultrathin section TEM. Purpose: The Eiger 2X CdTe 1 M-W (Dectris ltd, Baden, Switzerland) single photon counting detector was characterized for imaging applications at the biomedical beamline ID17 of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility., Methods: Linearity, Modulation Transfer Function, Noise Power Spectrum and Detective Quantum Efficiency were measured as a function of photon energy and flux in the range 26-80 keV., Results: The linearity was confirmed in the flux range specified by Dectris and a detection efficiency higher than 60 % was measured for energies up to 80 keV. The spatial resolution was inferred from the Modulation Transfer Function and was found to be compatible with the pixel size of the detector (75 μm), except at energies just above the K-edge of Cd and Te where it reached 150 μm. The study of the Noise Power Spectrum showed a time-dependency in the response of the sensor, which is mitigated at low photon fluxes (<2⨯10 8 ph mm -2 s -1 )., Conclusions: This work was the first characterization of the Eiger 2X CdTe 1 M-W for imaging applications with monochromatic synchrotron radiation. Quantum dots (QDs) with distinctive optical properties have been extensively researched and developed for usage in solar cells, imaging, drug delivery, cellular targeting, etc. But the inevitable production of QDs can lead to their unavoidable release and increased environmental concentration. Depending on morphological and surface properties, QDs at the nano-bio interface considerably impact the activity and structure of bio-molecules. The present study investigates the interaction of metalloenzyme jack bean urease (JBU) and bi-sized CdSe QDs (2.43 nm and 3.63 nm), surface-functionalized to mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) (-COOH), L-cysteine (CYS), L-glutathione (GSH), N-acetyl L-cysteine (NAC) (-COOH, -NH 2 ), and cysteamine hydrochloride (CYST) (-NH 2 ) to assess any alterations in JBU's binding, microenvironment, structure, exciton lifetime, and activity. JBU catalyzes the hydrolysis of urea to produce ammonia and carbon dioxide; any changes in its properties could threaten the survival of several microbes and plants. Spectroscopy techniques such as UV-Vis, fluorescence, circular dichroism, synchronous, time-resolved fluorescence, atomic force microscopy, and JBU activity assay were studied. Results suggested highly spontaneous and energy-favored interactions, which involved static quenching and hydrophobic forces of varied magnitude, dependent on QDs properties. The size, surface modifications, and dosage of QDs significantly impacted the secondary structure and activity of JBUs. Even though the larger sizes of the relevant modifications demonstrated stronger binding, the smaller sizes had the greatest impact on α-helicity and activity. CYST-capped QDs with an average number of the binding site (n) = 1, reduced α-helicity by 16% and activity by 22-30% at 7 nM concentration. In contrast, MPA-capped QDs with n < 1 had the least effect on α-helical structure and activity. The smaller GSH-capped QDs increased the activity by 9%, via partially restoring JBU's α-helical content. The study thus thoroughly analyzed the impact of varied-size and surface-functionalized QDs on the structure and function of JBU, which can be exploited further for several biomedical applications., (© 2023. The combination of multiple quantum dots (QDs) in a multi-emitter nanoprobe can be envisaged as a promising sensing scheme, as it enables obtaining a collective response of individual emitters towards a given analyte and allows for achieving specific analyte-response profiles. The processing of these profiles using adequate chemometric methods empowers a more sensitive, reliable and selective determination of the target analyte. In this work, we developed a kinetic fluorometric method consisting of a dual CdTe/AgInS 2 quantum dots photoluminescence probe for the determination of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA). The fluorometric response was acquired as second-order time-based excitation/emission matrices that were subsequently processed using chemometric methods seeking to assure the second-order advantage. The data obtained in this work are considered second-order data as they have a three-dimensional size, I × J × K (where I represents the samples' number, J the fluorescence emission wavelength while K represents the time). In order to select the most adequate chemometric method regarding the obtained data structure, different chemometric models were tested, namely unfolded partial least squares (U-PLS), N-way partial least squares (N-PLS), multilayer feed-forward neural networks (MLF-NNs) and radial basis function neural networks (RBF-NNs).

The inappropriate application of aminoglycoside antibiotics (AGs) in food products has led to the accumulation of AG residues in the human body. In this study, a novel fluorescent sensor based on mercaptosuccinic acid (MSA)-modified CdTe quantum dots (QDs) were designed for the rapid visual detection of a representative AG, neomycin (NEO). The proposed sensor showed excellent performance toward NEO determination, with a detection limit of 1.60 × 10 -8  mol/L. Furthermore, MSA-CdTe QDs can be applied to the visual detection of NEO, where the fluorescence changes from bright yellow to dark red with increasing NEO concentration. A nanocomposite fluorescent probe was fabricated for the simultaneous determination of florfenicol and sparfloxacin based on fluorescence quenching. The probe was synthesized by integrating nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (N-GQDs), cadmium telluride quantum dots (CdTe QDs) and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO) into a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). The determination was based on the quenching of fluorescence emissions from N-GQDs by florfenicol, detected at 410 nm, and the quenching of fluorescence emissions from CdTe QDs by sparfloxacin, detected at 550 nm. The fluorescent probe was highly sensitive and specific with good linear relationships for florfenicol and sparfloxacin in the range  0.10 to 100.0 μg L -1 . The limits of detection for florfenicol and sparfloxacin were 0.06 and 0.10 μg L -1 , respectively. The fluorescent probe was used to determine florfenicol and sparfloxacin in food samples and the results agreed well with the results of chromatographic determination. Recoveries of spiked milk, egg and chicken samples reached 93.3-103.4% with good precision (RSD < 6%).
